In video games, one can change and manipulate the "skin" of a character to give it a different look or style. In video game terminology, a skin is not only the tissue that wraps around flesh and bones, separating inside from outside. Rather, it encompasses anything related to the character's appearance, hair, clothing, weapons, sound effects, and visual effects. A skin is anything that can be visually altered without affecting how the character functions. What remains consistent across these changes is an underlying hierarchy called the "skeleton", a collection of bones that influence the skin and enable movement and animation.
The process of creating a skin involves a step called UV unwrapping, in which the three-dimensional body is flattened into a two-dimensional sheet, onto which textures are applied to further manipulate its appearance.
